DIY Avocado Face and Hair Mask (great for dry skin)

What You Need

1/2 Avocado
2 Tablespoons Honey
4 Tablespoons Raw Sugar*
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons Lime Juice
1 Teaspoon Chamomile
1 Teaspoon Calendula

Directions

  1. Put the oil on a double boiler and turn on low.
  2. Add the chamomile and calendula to the oil and steep for thirty minutes then take of the heat.
  3. Strain using either a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Be sure to really squeeze it out so you get the all the oil you can. **
  4. Using either a fork, a blender, or a hand blender mash up the avocado and add the olive oil until it reaches a creamy consistency.  (You may need to add more oil depending on the size of your avocado.)
  5. Add the rest of your ingredients and stir together with a spoon.
  6. Apply part of the mask to your face and scrub for a few minutes. Once done scrubbing apply the rest of the mask.
  7. Let the mask sit for fifteen or twenty minutes. Sit down, relax, drink a glass of wine. Read a good book or watch part of a great movie.
  8. Once the time is up just rinse it off and pat dry.
*To make the hair mask leave out the sugar and follow the rest of the instructions. Apply to your hair and put on a shower cap. Either use a blow dryer on low for a minute or two to heat  up the mask to help it sink in or wrap a hot towel around your head. Let sit for thirty minutes Then hop in the shower rinse off shampoo as normal and condition if it feels like you should (some people may not need to condition).
** You can leave the herbs in if you want and if you don’t mind cleaning up a bit of a mess.

Why These Ingredients

Avocado– These are packed with tons of nutrients and vitamins A, C, and B6. It is also full of essential fatty acids and is great for dry skin or hair.
Honey Honey is a humectant which means it attracts and locks moisture into your skin and hair.
Olive Oil– This too is packed with essential fatty acids and vitamins E, K, omega 3 and 6.
Lime Juice– This has great cleaning and anti-bacterial properties
Chamomile-Helps irritated and inflamed skin it is also full of antioxidants. Helps eliminate dandruff and soothes an irritated scalp.
Calendula– This herb has anti-bacterial properties and helps stimulate the production of collagen at wound sites. Helps soothe the scalp.
