DIY Potpourri Hot Pot Recipes

So this post isn’t exactly about skin care, but it is about making your whole house smell amazing with what you have on hand and avoiding toxic chemicals. All of these ingredients are grown organically as well as conventionally so your Hot Pot can be all organic if you want.

How much money do you spend on making your house smell good? Some candles cost $25 dollars. Which in my opinion is just ridiculous. Then you have your sprays (air, carpet, pet, anti-bacterial, odor eliminator, seasonal scents), scented plugins, potpourri, gel air fresheners, diffusers, scented wax melts, etc.  Go look around your house right now, if you don’t have at least five products used to make your house smell good I would be surprised. I know I used to have tons of products in mine too.

There is a way though to make your house smell amazing with things you have on hand in the kitchen.

If you have oranges in your house (which I do all the time) then this one is for you. I usually do this whenever I eat an orange.

Orange Cinnamon Hot Pot

What you need:

  • The peel of one orange.
  • A cinnamon stick or two
  • A splash of vanilla extract
  • Cloves (optional)

Directions

  1. Fill a pot halfway with water.
  2. Throw all your ingredients in.
  3. Put on med until steaming, then simmer on low.
  4. Add water as needed. This pot should last a two or three days.
  5. Follow these directions for all hot pots.

Lemon Mint Hot Pot

  • Lemon peels. (Maybe make some homemade lemonade)
  • 1 peppermint tea teabag.

Christmas Tree Hot Pot

  • 3 sprigs evergreen or handful pine needles
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 TBS whole cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 pieces orange rind
  • 2 pieces lemon rind

Apple Spice Hot Pot

  • Hand full of apple peels.
  • Cinnamon stick
  • 5-6 Cloves

Now these hot pots may not be standard ingredients in your house but they sure do smell good!

Winter Hot Pot

This one is great for helping to clear out your nose and sinuses. Another benefit of hot pots in the winter is that they act as a humidifier! This is done best in a crock pot. You can lessen the amounts and do on the stove if you want. Or you can make all this up and store it an airtight container and used as wanted.

  • 2 cups dried rosemary
  • 2 cups dried lavender
  • 1 cup dried eucalyptus leaves
  • 1/2 cup dried peppermint or spearmint
  • 1/2 cup dried bay leaves

Jasmine Hot Pot

  • Dried jasmine flowers
  • Dried Rose Petals
  • Dried eucalyptus leaves
